Dutch QUIZ: A ForTune TElling Game
Way back in the early 90s, my oldest sister received a handwritten copy of this quiz game from her Dutch pen pal. It had been carefully translated into English and was so different from any quizzes we had seen in YM or Seventeen magazine.
I made a copy for myself and as a silly boy-crazy tween and teen, I played the Dutch Quiz over and over. It made appearances at sleepovers and hangouts. It was like M.A.S.H. but better. Instead of hoping to marry your love interest and live in a mansion, you could determine what your crush thought of you now.
Recently, I brought home boxes of keepsakes from my parents’ house. Among the ticket stubs (Twister matinee, Star Wars Episode 1, etc.), I rediscovered the Dutch Quiz and even found an answer code I had written down for the guy that I’ve now been married to for 18 years.
I decided I needed to pass on the silliness of the Dutch Quiz with this generation of hopeless romantics, so I created this PDF version. The only wording I’ve changed has been pronouns. The quiz still references smoking, drinking, and making love. Very European.
Download and print your own copy. And if you want to go the extra mile, print out the totally unnecessary and very small score cards.
Make sure you bundle in groups of 3!!
